(Marquette, Michigan) — The Peter White Public Library’s Film Club, celebrating good teachers everywhere, welcomes the public to a screening of the modern classic film “Stand and Deliver” on Thursday, September 19 at 1:00 pm in the library’s Community Room.
“Stand and Deliver” is the compelling true-life story of East Los Angeles calculus high school teacher Jaime Escalante who surmounted overwhelming odds in his efforts to inspire and educate his students. All of his students went on to pass the Advance Placement Test in calculus.
Starring Edward James Olmos and Lou Diamond Phillips, the Golden Globe and Oscar nominated film was released in 1988, is rated PG and runs for 102 minutes. Light refreshments will be served.
There is no admission charge thanks to sponsorship by the Friends of the Peter White Public Library. For more information visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
