An Advanced Beekeeping workshop will be held Saturday, March 29 from 10 a.m to 4:30 p.m. at the Ewen-Trout Creek School, 144 Airport Road in Ewen. The workshop will focus on a year in the life of the advanced beekeeper and will cover how to make varietal honey, testing your honey for water content and storing your honey. There will demonstrations and discussions on the different kinds of winter wraps and when to wrap and unwrap your hives. Also covered will be when to re-queen, building bear fences, making splits divides and the latest in beekeeping news, emergency feeding, what to use and how, spring/fall medications, new treatments for mites, the importance of Integrated Pest Management, making comb honey, selling your honey, state regulations and license requirements. Participants interested in a honey exchange can bring a 12-16 ounce jar of their own honey to exchange with others. Registration deadline is Thursday, March 27. Pre-registration is required. The registration fee of $25 for adults and $15 for youth 12-18 years old includes lunch. A minimum requirement of 20 participants per session must be pre-registered for the session to be held.
