Writers in the Marquette area have a unique opportunity to join Bonnie Jo Campbell, award-winning author and one of today’s most compelling voices in fiction, in an interactive workshop on Thursday, August 8 at 1:00 pm in the Peter White Public Library community room.
Campbell will lead the class entitled “Writing from Your Life” which will help writers feel confident in using their own experiences as inspiration for their work in memoir, fiction, poetry or any other genre. Participants will be expected to share their writings and thoughts with each other in this highly interactive program. Campbell is the author of the novel Once Upon a River (July 2011, W.W. Norton) and a 2011 Guggenheim Fellow.
She was a 2009 National Book Award finalist and National Book Critics Circle Award finalist for her collection of stories, American Salvage, which won the Foreword Book of the Year award for short fiction. She received her M.A. in mathematics and her M.F.A. in writing from Western Michigan University. She lives outside Kalamazoo and she teaches writing in the low residency program at Pacific University. There is no admission charge to attend the workshop, but class size is limited to 20 participants and registration is required.
