As many already know, Seeds and Spores Family Farm recently lost their barn, which was the central hub for operations. The barn housed everything from their pack shed, inventory, and tools, to feed for their animals. The farm has the largest CSA program in the area and is a popular vendor at the Downtown Marquette Farmers Market, so news of their devastating barn fire has touched many people.
“Seeds and Spores is so important to me because they make it really fun to eat and eat local. Every growing season I let out a little squeal when they have broccoli for the first time,” says Beth Millner, a long time customer.
As news of the disastrous barn fire has spread, many in the community have rallied around the farm. Opportunities to help have emerged, giving the public a chance to support local agriculture and these hard working families.
A fun, family-friendly event has been planned to help raise money for a new barn and equipment, as insurance will not cover all of the farm’s losses. On Tuesday, July 16, from 5:30-8:30, there will be a barn raiser benefit and silent auction at the Ore Dock Brewing Company. Monetary donations for entrance will be accepted at the door, and all proceeds will go to the farm.
Music will be provided by Jj Moonberry Sperry, Papa Crow, Niikah Hatfield and Paul Ritacco, Kerry Yost, Delirious Dettloff, Michael Waite, and the Chanteymen. Donations for the silent auction have poured in, so there will be lots of great items to bid on.

Or if you would prefer not to give online, you can also donate at the Marquette Food Co-op, where a jar has been placed at the front of the store.
