Negaunee, Michigan – Saturday, July 27 marks the tenth annual Swim Teal Lake for Diabetes. As in years past, the safety of our swimmers is of utmost importance. We are once again requesting support from volunteer kayakers on that day.
Registration for the swim begins at 7:30 a.m. and the swim itself will begin starting with the first group of swimmers entering the water at 8:30 a.m. Swimmers will leave in 2 groups based on their estimated finish time: 8:30 and 9:00 am. The swim should be concluded by noon. Safety meetings will be held at 8:15 and 8:45 am for kayakers.
The 10th annual Swim Teal Lake will once again feature an Olympic Athlete with UP connections, Peter Vanderkaay. Peter is a 3 time medal winner in the Olympics – 2 gold and one bronze and has also been a 3 time World Champion in the sport of swimming. Peter has also expressed interest in competing in the 2.25 mile race. This will be a great opportunity for local swimmers (and kayakers) to swim/paddle alongside an Olympic athlete.
Anyone interested in kayaking can contact Kristen at the UPDON office at (906) 228-9203. More information and registration for the swim can be found at www.teallakeswim.com. Thank you for your support in our efforts to keep the Swim Teal Lake for Diabetes a safe and fun event for everyone involved.
