The Peter White Public Library presents “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” performed by Vertigo Theatre Company on December 6, 7 and 8. Tickets are now available at the circulation desk.
This beloved American holiday classic adapted by Joe Landry and inspired by the Frank Capra film, comes to captivating life as a 1940’s radio broadcast performed before a live studio audience. With the help of an ensemble that brings several dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve.
Six actors portray all of the story’s characters and perform live sound effects on stage. “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” premiered in 1996 at Stamford Center for the Arts in Stamford, Connecticut, and has since been produced around the country to critical acclaim.
Mary Houlihan of the Chicago Sun-Times calls the play “One of the best holiday shows around. This is a fresh and inventive way of reconnecting with a classic story of love and redemption.”
Vertigo Theatre Company, a group of local, experienced professional actors, produces quality, forward-thinking theatre that challenges and enriches both artists and audiences. Previous acclaimed productions of Vertigo Theatre Company include “A Christmas Carol,” “Rabbit Hole,” “Fat Pig,” and “Last Five Years.”
Performances of “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” will be held on Thursday, December 6 and Friday, December 7 at 7:00pm and a Saturday, December 8 matinee at 2:00pm in the library’s Community room.
Tickets are $7.50 per person and only available in advance at the library circulation desk or by phone at 228-9510 with a valid credit card. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
