Marquette – The annual American Red Cross Duck Race will be held on Saturday, August 2 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Dead River under the County Road 550 Bridge adjacent to Tourist Park in Marquette.
One hundred ducks make up each heat. Prizes are awarded to the first, second and third ducks across the finish line and to the last duck across. Winners from each heat will compete in the grand finale race for a $1,000 grand prize.
The police, fire and EMS have their own race that starts at 4 p.m. Their ducks compete for a roving Community Heroes Trophy.
Children under 12 will race their ducklings at 4:30 p.m., with prizes for each participant.
Duck Race tickets are on sale for $5 each, $25 for a six-quack, and $100 for a whole flock (of 30). Ducklings for the children's race cost $1 each. Call 228-3659 to place a credit or debit card order.Ducks also may be purchased by sending checks or stopping by the office at 424 N. Third Street, Marquette.
Proceeds will go to help meet emergency needs of single family fire victims in the chapter's 10-county area.
