Marquette – A “Protect the Earth Summit: On the Shores of Gichigami” will be held on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3 in Marquette and on the Yellow Dog Plains near Big Bay.
The event will feature speakers, workshops and a walk, all focusing on protecting our health, land and water from metallic sulfide and uranium mining, as well as honoring treaty rights.
Saturday events include workshops from 1 to 4 p.m. in the University Center at NMU and a rally with skits and music from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Presque Isle Bandshell.
Sunday events include a walk to Eagle Rock on the Yellow Dog Plains at 10 a.m. with many speakers and information, lasting until late afternoon.
