Inaugural Harvest Half Marathon, 5K, Kids Fun Run and Family Festival

Join Bell Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marquette & Alger County on October 6, 2012 for the Inaugural Harvest Half Marathon, 5K, Fun Run and Family Festival. Proceeds will support area youth programming provided by Bell Hospital & Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The half-marathon is a hybrid race that includes terrain through the city streets of Ishpeming and Negaunee, a portion of the paved Iron Ore Heritage Trail and a gravel trail that runs between Ishpeming and Negaunee. Registration is $75 and participants will receive a long sleeve technical t-shirt, a lunch and beer garden voucher, and hand-crafted enameled antique Verde marble finishers medals (crafted by Da Yooper Trap Rock Shop) upon completion. Additional hand-crafted trophies made from local rock will be awarded for the top three male and female finishers in each age group, 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 & 60 & over. Registration for the half-marathon ends Wednesday, October 3, 2012, with packet pick-up and a spaghetti dinner ($8)at Bell Hospital on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 4:30pm-6:30pm.

The 5K starts at Lake Bancroft and weaves in an out of the streets of Ishpeming. Registration is $25 and participants will receive a t-shirt and racer bag. Trophies will be awarded for the top male and female in each age group. Packet pick-up and spaghetti dinner will also be available at Bell Hospital on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 4:30pm-6:30pm. YOU MAY REGISTER FOR THE 5K ON THE DAY OF THE RACE, although t-shirts are not guaranteed.

Runners for the half-marathon and 5K will park at the hospital and be shuttled to the start of the race at Ishpeming’s Lake Bancroft. Massages for racers will be available at the hospital from 10:30-1:30pm.

The Kids Fun Run will be located at Bell Hospital along the Community Fitness Trail. Registration is $10 and participants will receive a t-shirt and participation ribbons. Trophies will be awarded for the top male and female in each age group. YOU MAY REGISTER FOR THE KIDS FUN RUN ON THE DAY OF THE RACE, although t-shirts are not guaranteed.

The Harvest Family Festival will include live entertainment by the local country rock band, Trailer Hitch, from 1:00-5:00. Paisanos Pizza & Subway will be available to purchase a lunch, as well as the opportunity to enjoy the Harvest Beer & Wine Garden that features Keweenaw Brewing Company exclusively. Additional activities include Ambulance & Fire Truck Tours, Smoky Bear, Kirby Kangaroo, and Sparky the Fire Dog. Local business will also be featuring their products. For $2.50, children can receive a bracelet that includes pony rides, tractor pulled hayrides, face painting, Lucy Hill ‘Luge Rides’, games and craft activities, obstacle course and storytelling adventures. Adults are able to purchase tickets for the hayride for $1.

There will also be a chance to win prizes including a 50/50, a bucket drawing for prizes, and a silent auction featuring autographed photos and products from players from the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings and Green Bay Packers.

All proceeds will support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marquette and Alger Counties provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. The Bell Foundation is raising funds for the Bell Strength from Within Youth Fitness Challenge: a competitive scholarship/ awards program for grades 6-8 that requires participants commit one year to being active, choosing the right foods, making healthy lifestyle choices, and giving back to the community.
