Author Jack Driscoll to Visit Northern Michigan University October 15th

MARQUETTE, Mich.—Award-winning author Jack Driscoll will visit Northern Michigan University to read from his new book of short stories, The World a Few Minutes Ago. The reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, in the Charcoal Room of the University Center. It is free and open to the public. Driscoll will be available for a question-and-answer session and a book signing after his presentation.
The World a Few Minutes Ago consists of 10 stories told by Michigan characters from ages 14-77. Driscoll, also a poet, is known for his lyrical style that lets him tap into the depths of lonely people in tender, moving ways.
Driscoll frequently reads his stories over NPR’s “The Sound of Writing.” He is the author of four books of poems, two collections of short stories, and four novels, including Lucky Man, Lucky Woman, which won the 1998 Pushcart Editor’s Book Award.
Other awards Driscoll has garnered include the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Award, the PEN/Nelson Algren Fiction Award and seven PEN Syndicated Project Short Fiction Awards. Driscoll teaches at Pacific University’s low-residency MFA program in Oregon.
This event is sponsored by NMU’s Department of English, including its MFA and MA creative writing programs, Passages North literary magazine, and Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society. Light refreshments will be served.
