Marquette – The Jim Pennell Chili Cook-off fundraiser will be held on Thursday, February 23 beginning with a chili cook-off supper from 5 to 7 p.m. at Graveraet School Cafeteria. There will also be a silent auction in the Graveraet gym from 5 to 8 p.m.
A concert will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. as a tribute for Pennell with performances from the Marquette Senior High School’s band, orchestra and Redmen Choral group, excerpts from the Lake Superior Community Theatre’s production of “Annie, Jr.” and local dance groups from 7 to 8 p.m. They will be followed by performances from a wide variety of local musicians until about 9 p.m.
Tickets are $10 and will be available in the main office in Graveraet School or at the door. A donation of $5 for young children with small appetites is suggested as well.
Proceeds will help defray medical expenses incurred by Jim Pennell as a result of emergency surgery he received for a detached retina.
