State of Michigan – State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle will deliver the keynote address tomorrow (Jan. 24th 2012) at the 11th annual International Road Federation (IRF) awards luncheon in Washington, D.C. The event is expected to draw hundreds of government officials, industry executives and other transportation professionals.
Founded in 1948, the IRF is a non-government, not-for-profit organization with members in more than 110 counties on six continents. It provides support and information for planning road development strategy and policy to governments and financial institutions worldwide. This year’s awards will recognize nine successful projects and will highlight best practices and new technologies at work.
Steudle is the 2012 president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). He was appointed director of the Michigan Department of Transportation by Gov. Rick Snyder on Jan. 1, 2011.
As director, Steudle oversees MDOT’s more than $3 billion budget and is responsible for the construction, maintenance and operation of nearly 10,000 miles of state highways and more than 4,000 state highway bridges, at a department with 2,500 employees. He also oversees administration of a wide range of multi-modal transportation programs, including aviation, public transit, rail, marine and nonmotorized transportation.
