Ishpeming – A Labor Day festival will be held Monday, September 5 beginning with a parade at 11 a.m. along Euclid, Main and Division streets and Lakeshore Drive in Ishpeming.
There will be a picnic and rally from noon to 4 p.m. at the Marquette Range Iron Mining Heritage Theme Park, located on the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum grounds, and at Lake Bancroft Park, located at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Euclid Street. State Rep. Steve Lindberg will serve as parade marshal and will speak at the picnic and rally.
This year’s theme is “We Are the People.” Local unions are encouraged to march and enter floats in the parade that reflect this theme. For more information, call Russ Williams at 362-9518.
Picnic lunch tickets will cost $4, which includes a choice of a pasty or hot dogs, ice cream and pop. Tickets for adult beverages will cost $2, and additional pop and water will be available for $1.
The picnic and rally will include music by Fast Eddie’s Blues Band, speeches from elected officials and with children’s activities. In addition, Cliffs Shaft volunteers will offer free tours of the museum. Donations will be accepted.
MarqTran will provide transportation to and from Ishpeming. Pickups in Marquette will be at 9 and 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Westwood Mall near the JC Penney store, and in Negaunee at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. in the Lakeview School parking lot. The bus will leave the Cliffs Shaft museum at noon, 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m.
