A Marquette Business Joins Together With The Band

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A recent interview with Debra Nance with the Marquette Area Fourth of July Committee revealed that there was going to be no marching bands in this year’s Fourth of July parade in Marquette. This was due to the fact that the Fourth of July Committee did not have enough funds in their budget to cover an honorarium for any bands.

This affected the Marquette Senior High School Marching Band’s ability to perform in the Marquette parade due to financial constraints on their end as well. Ultimately, this meant that the Marquette High School Band was not going to be able to participate in their own hometown for the Holiday. This did not sit well with the Jon Christiansen and the rest of the staff at Jon’s Auto in Marquette.

They stepped up and presented a $750.00 check to the Marquette High School Marching Band to cover their expenses for participating in the parade. John Kivela, part-owner in the business joined Mark and Walt in the Sunny 101.9 studios this morning to talk about why they decided to give the money to help out the band.
