U.S. Senator Carl Levin On Oil Company Tax Breaks

(MARQUETTE, MI) – Upper Michigan heard from U.S. Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) on WKQS-FM’s Mark and Walt in the Morning today. Michigan’s senior U.S. Senator called in from Washington, D.C. to weigh in with his perspectives on the failure of the Senate bill calling on the revoking of tax breaks for the five largest oil companies.

The bill failed on a procedural vote with a tally of 52 yes to 48 no. While the simple vote was in favor, a majority of 60 votes is necessary to make it filibuster-proof and move the bill forward. Two Republican senators voted with Democrats to support the measure, while three Democrats sided with Republicans in voting against it.

Senator Levin addressed the vote and why he feels the tax breaks used by the five oil companies are extremely unnecessary due to the massive profits reported by the companies.
