Thanks to Curt Hewitt, owner and operator of Utopia Tanning and Skin Care Spa in Marquette and Michelle LaMere, owner and operator of Shape Up Fitness and Tanning in the Country Village in Ishpeming for stopping in this morning to discuss a little-known clause in the Health Care legislation that was approved by lawmakers in Washington, D.C. last year.
The legislation places a tax on tanning services and tanning stores that has caused them to have to raise their prices for tanning to absorb the extra expense. This has caused a decline in customers for each of them and has eroded their bottom line. They are calling on lawmakers to rescind this tax, calling it unnecessary and detrimental to their business.
