Marquette – Northern Michigan University will mark the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day and celebrate Women’s History Month with a series of March activities. This year’s theme is “Our History is Our Strength.”
Guerilla Girls will appear on Wednesday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Jamrich 102. These anonymous females take the names of dead women artists as pseudonyms and appear in public wearing gorilla masks. They have produced posters, stickers, books, printed projects and actions that expose sexism and racism in politics, art, film and the culture at large. The Guerilla Girls use humor to convey information, provoke discussion and show that feminists can be funny. They wear gorilla masks to “focus on the issues rather than our personalities.”
The event is free and open to the public.
