Marquette – Carl Rahkonen, the Finlandia Foundation 2011 Lecturer of the Year, will present a program titled “The Finnish American Musical Journey: From Rune Singing to the Rockland Opera” on Sunday, January 16 at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.
The lecture will feature sound and visual recordings and music played by Rahkonen on his violin. Tanja Stanaway and Marilyn Savolainen will entertain with some Kaustinen tunes before the program. Coffee and pulla (cardamom bread) will be served prior to the lecture.
