Baraga – In recognition of October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community will commemorate the life of tribal member Chelsey LaFernier at its annual Memorial Walk, Friday, October 1 beginning at for 5 p.m. at the corner of McGillan Street and Lyons Avenue and concluding at the KBIC Niiwin Akeaa Recreational Facility adjacent to Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College in Baraga.
Speakers will include Lisa Marie Iyote, who introduced President Barack Obama when he announced the signing of the Tribal Law and Order Act on July 29. There will be a feast after the walk.
