Marquette – St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Marquette will offer a Finnish-African Gospel Mass on Sunday, September 20 at 10 a.m.
The Finnish African Gospel Mass combines the rhythm and style of African folk music with traditional Lutheran liturgy.
There will be a special solo performance by, Viktor Klimenko. Other performers include Wilho Kilpela on accordion, Tanja Stanaway on guitar, Emmanuel Shayo on congas, Lisa Bucher on string bass, Ray Hasenhauer on guitar, Jayme Bell on flute and Pauline Kiltinen. on piano.
The service will be lead by Reverend Dave Van Kley with assistance as cantor by John Kiltinen. The service has been translated into English. Some parts are sung in both original Finnish and in English translations.
