Marquette – “Refuse to be Silenced” with human rights activist and best-selling author of Infidel, Ayaan Hirsi Ali will be offered on Wednesday, March 31 at 7 p.m. in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center on the campus of NMU.
Ms. Ali grew up in exile, moving from Saudi Arabia to Ethiopia then Kenya. As she grew up, she embraced Islam and strove to live as a devout Muslim. One day while listening to a sermon on the many ways women should be obedient to their husbands, she couldn’t resist asking, “Must our husbands obey us, too?” Her willingness to speak out and her abandonment of the Muslim faith have made her a target for violence by Islamic extremists.
Tickets will be available at the door. The event is free to NMU students with NMU ID and $2 for the general public.
The event is sponsored by Platform Personalities and the Student Activity Fee.
