Marquette – In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Peter White Public Library will present a screening of “Ruby Bridges” on Monday, January 18 at 7 p.m.
This film details a pivotal moment in the civil-rights movement, when 6 year old Ruby Bridges became the first African-American child to attend an all-white elementary school in Louisiana. Ruby faced the true ugliness of racism, encouraged by her teacher, a white woman from the North, and her own mother, with a quiet strength that eventually broke down a century-old color barrier forever.
The film runs for 90 minutes and is suitable for all ages. For more information, visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
