Marquette – A Blueberry Dance Festival will be held Thursday through Saturday, July 23 through 25 in Marquette, offering intensive workshops, local talent shows, competitions and guest dance performances by Celia Weiss Bambara and Byron “Illastik” Reynolds.
Free workshops will be offered on Friday, July 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Marquette Commons, and Thursday through Saturday for a minimal cost.
Bambara will teach intensive workshops in contemporary fusional, a blend of contemporary and traditional African Diasporic dance. Reynolds will teach intensive workshops in hip-hop, with a focus on popping, waving and locking.
Both dancers will perform on Saturday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Kaufman Auditorium. Advance tickets cost $5 for students and seniors, $10 for adults: all $3 more at the door.
A talent show for local performers will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 3 p.m. in Kaufman Auditorium.
