The Kurian Construction Midget BB team shutout Main Street Pizza by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Lakeview Arena in Marquette, Michigan.
Both teams were a little timid for the first period. Main Street goalie, John Bertram, stopped a couple of breakaways and made some key saves early in the game to keep the game scoreless through the first period.
Kurian opened the scoring with two goals in the second period.
Despite a late surge in the third period by Ryan Marceau and Ian O'Neill, Kurian was able to shut them down offensively by stepping it up physically with the much younger and inexperienced team. Kurian scored one more goal in the third period.
The Marquette Junior Hockey Corporation recently changed its policy regarding the midget house league teams. Instead of there being two midget BB teams, the board of directors voted to have a midget BB and midget B team to allow the better players to compete at a higher level and to keep the players together on the same team longer.
I think its a good idea and hopefully the older kids take it a little more seriously now as they can compete against Negaunee and other U.P. teams for the Michigan State Championship.
