Marquette – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will offer a workshop on vermicomposting (using worms to turn organic waste into high-quality compost) on Saturday, July 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.
Linda O'Brien and Tiffany Rantanen, MooseWood Nature Center board volunteers, will discuss the advantages of vermicomposting, the species of worms required, how to set up a bin and how to use food scraps to create a nutrient-rich organic fertilizer and soil conditioner.
A hands-on activity will follow. Participants will learn how to maintain a bin and how to harvest and use the worm castings.
Cost is a donation to the Moosewood Nature Center. Advance registration is requested by Thursday, July 9. To register, call Marge Forslin at 869-4791.
