A local non-profit focused on helping disabled individuals and veterans participate in outdoor activities, Courage Incorporated, will be hosting its annual fundraiser on Saturday, April 12 from 3pm-7pm at Upper Peninsula Brewing Company in Negaunee. The event is open to the public and tickets are $15/person at the door (kids ages 6 and under are free). The fundraiser will include a dinner, over $7,000 in prize raffles, a 50/50 drawing, door prizes, and more!
Courage Inc. hosts and facilitates camping, fishing, boating, canoe/kayaking, ice fishing, and other outdoor activities and excursions. Their goal is to “-help our clients achieve feelings of accomplishment and self confidence by allowing them to challenge themselves in nature. We provide these excursions free of charge for all of our participants.” People with physical disabilities, and those living with chronic or terminal illnesses, make up an under-represented segment of the outdoor recreation community. This is commonly due to lack of resources available to help differently-abled people participate outdoors. Courage Incorporated provides all of the equipment, food, and manpower needed to help give people with disabilities an outdoor experience they won’t soon forget.
Their backstory, per their website: “Courage Incorporated began in 2015 with a goal of helping physically disabled people enjoy the woods and the water. Our first adventure took place in the summer of 2016 when we took a disabled veteran out on a weekend camping adventure. We received our IRS 501(c)3 charitable organization designation in 2017. Since that time we have been providing multiple excursions each year to both civilian and veteran clients. In 2019 we began to offer ice fishing adventures as part of our programs. This has allowed us to stay active all year long and provide people with some amazing opportunities. Through Courage Incorporated, individuals and veterans with physical disabilities now have the chance to participate in outdoor excursions that might not have otherwise been possible for them.”

Courage Incorporated is an all-volunteer organization. Funds raised go directly towards programs, equipment, and operations and not towards any salary or wages.
