March 11th, 2025 at 7:30pm- NMU Choral Concert, performing their first Winter 25′ concert, in Reynolds Recital Hall! Free admission!

March 20th, 2025 at 7:30pm- (Opening Concert) The 2025 NMU Jazz Festival will be held on the beautiful campus of Northern Michigan University. High school and middle school jazz bands from throughout the region will participate in a variety of performances and clinics, and an exciting evening performance will showcase NMU students, faculty, and guest clinicians. NMU students have free entry, as well as youth (under 18 y/o), general admission to this event is $12.
This year’s festival will feature drummer Matt Wilson, who has released thirteen albums as a leader, appeared on more than 400 others as a sideman, and has played with an impressive array of some of the most legendary names in jazz. He is a fantastic drummer, bandleader, and educator, and we are very happy that he will be joining for this year’s event. To learn more about Matt Wilson’s projects, click here!

March 22nd, 2025 at 4:00pm- NMU Department of Music is pleased to present a faculty recital of one of our vocal instructors, Keri Lee Pierson! She is a classically trained soprano and contemporary musician. She taught private voice lessons, diction courses, theory, history and literature courses at BGSU and Flagler College. In addition to collegiate work, she has experience as a K-6 music teacher, a staff musician at various churches, directing youth choruses, and has kept a private studio for all skill levels.
Planning interesting and audience involved events, with a lean towards contemporary chamber music is Ms. Pierson’s primary focus. In 2021-22, she was awarded two grants from the Florida Department of State for her voice and guitar duo, Deux Saisons, to tour in St. Johns County’s public libraries and schools. Her duo’s current project involves commissioning new works from composers Christopher Cerrone, Akshaya Avril Tucker, and Pablo Gómez-Estévez. Ms. Pierson has presented events and concerts throughout the United States and in Europe with some of the industry’s leading organizations and frequently curated her projects and events. April 2nd, 2025 at 7:30pm- Performance Scholarship Competition; NMU Music students will perform a piece on their instrument of their choice to compete for a scholarship award. Three scholarships are awarded to the top three places. Come support these students in their efforts! Free admission. Taking place at the Reynolds Recital Hall.

April 5th, 2025 at 3:00pm- NMU’s Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. James A. Strain, will be performing their winter semester concert! Come to Reynolds Recital Hall to enjoy a fun afternoon concert featuring various percussion instruments and styles. The concert is free admission for everyone! Click here for more information!

April 8th, 2025 at 7:30pm- NMU’s Open Mind Ensemble, an experimental music group of students led by Professor Patrick Booth, will be having a concert in Reynolds Recital Hall! Learn more about Open Mind here! Free admission!

April 14th, 2025 at 7:30pm- NMU Symphonic Band & Wind Ensemble has their final concert of the school year Monday, April 14. Come see their performance in Reynolds Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. for free!

April 22nd, 2025 at 7:30pm- NMU’s Choral Ensembles will be performing their final concert of the school year. This concert will take place in the beautiful St. Peter Cathedral in downtown Marquette and begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free for everyone! Click here for more information.

April 23rd, 2025 at 7:30pm- NMU University Orchestra, directed by Dr. Barbara Rhyneer, will have their final concert of the school year. Come enjoy their sure-to-be-wonderful performance in Reynolds Recital Hall for free!
