FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Marquette, MI – The Marquette Regional History Center will host the 12th Annual Archaeology Fair on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. In celebration of International Archaeology Day, this open house-style event is designed for all ages and offers a hands-on approach to learning about archaeology in the region and around the world.

The fair will feature multiple indoor and outdoor booths showcasing interactive displays and activities. Attendees can explore various aspects of archaeology, engaging with the rich history and discoveries from different times and places.

A special presentation by archaeologist Melissa Ludke will take place at 11:30 AM. Ludke will discuss her work on the excavation of a Roman bath house in Cosa, Italy. Cosa, a Latin colony with a long history of occupation from 273 BCE to the Medieval period, has been the focus of archaeological studies since 1948. Ludke, who has worked at the site since 2016, will share recent findings, including ancient coinage, one of her areas of expertise.

The fair is included with regular museum admission. It’s an excellent opportunity for families, students, and history enthusiasts to experience the thrill of discovery and learn more about archaeology.
