Marquette – The community is invited to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, on the corner of Fair and Presque Isle in Marquette for a special Finnish-African Gospel Mass on Sunday, June 21 at 10 a.m.
The Finnish African Gospel Mass combines the rhythm and style of African folk music with traditional Lutheran liturgy.
Performers include Judy Quirk on accordion, Darren Smith, Tanja Stanaway, Ray Hasenhauer on guitar, Lisa Bucher on string bass, Emmanuel Shayo on congas and piano accompaniment by Pauline Kiltinen.
The worship will be led by Reverend Dave Van Kley with assistance as cantor by John Kiltinen.
This service has been translated into English. Some parts are sung in both original Finnish and in English translations.
