Local Author Showcased at Peter White Public Library

Marquette, Michigan –

David Allen, former wildlife biologist and local author, and Susan Campbell, former environmental reporter and co-author, spoke to over 60 intrigued listeners on Monday (5/8), in the Peter White Public Library Community Room about their new book Paper Valley: The Fight For The Fox River Cleanup. While the book is new, it tells the environmental success story that began for them over 30 years ago. The authors’ journeys started in 1992 and involved years of struggle and strategy alongside a push for transparency and public involvement. They shared their 9 year story about the roles they played in the battle to clean up Wisconsin’s Fox River and the bay of Green Bay in Wisconsin and Michigan.

Their stories, while compelling, were just a tip of the iceberg. Their efforts over the nine years ultimately lead to numerous years of negotiations and court cases, and 17 years of cleanup at a cost of over a billion dollars. It was an engaging presentation followed by lots of questions from the audience who were dismayed by the struggle, thrilled with the cleanup success, and simultaneously hopeful and fearful for the future. Ultimately, these author’s shared their journeys in their book, Paper Valley: The Fight For The Fox River Cleanup, to encourage and remind us that people can have a voice and can prevail.

The Peter White Public Library will be sharing a recording of the event on their YouTube channel and for further information about the book and the story or to contact the authors visit the “Paper Valley” Facebook page or website (https://papervalley.org). Snowbound Books has copies of the book available.
