The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will be hosting its 46th Annual Gem and Mineral Show on Saturday, August 6 at the Ishpeming Elks Lodge. The free event will run from 9:30am to 4:30pm on Saturday. Dealers from around the Great Lakes will be in attendance with gem and mineral specimens, jewelry and other gem gift items. Returning for a second year is the children’s treasure hunt and scavenger hunt where youth can build a collection of their own, “mine” for copper and iron ore specimens and complete a scavenger hunt for prizes. The largest one-day gem and mineral show in the Midwest is free to attend, with hourly door prizes. Following the show, the evening program runs from 7pm-9pm and features speaker John Jaszczak, director of the Seaman Mineral Museum, a live auction of unique rock and mineral specimens as well as a raffle to support the club’s annual Earth Science Awards to deserving students at MTU and NMU. Associated with the show is a series of field trips: Republic Mine on Friday, August 5 and Lindberg Quarry on Sunday August 7.
