ISHPEMING – After weighing the pros and cons of the Michigan Main Street program, the Ishpeming City Council Wednesday voted unanimously to drop out.
According to City Manager Alan Bakalarski, the Ishpeming Main Street only covered a small portion of the vast TIFF District that makes up the Ishpeming Downtown Development Authority.
“The DDA feels it would be more productive to the community if the City operated its own community development program,” Bakalarski said. “The impression many have in the community is that this is only a program for Main Street businesses, which is a detriment to the entire business community working together.”
The Council also appointed former Main Street Director Dan Mitchell as the new Executive Director of the Ishpeming DDA.
