Negaunee – The Michigan Iron Industry Muesum, 73 Forge Road in Negaunee, will host its annual Mine Workers Memorial Day Observance on Sunday, May 31 at 1:30 p.m.
The Rev. Robert Dobson will present the eulogy, originally given on November 7, 1926, following the Barnes-Hecker mining disaster which claimed the lives of 51 miners.
Guests are invited to register the names of family members and others who lost their lives in the mines for permanent record in the museum library.
An opening reception will follow the ceremony for the “Vanishing Horizons: Abandoned Mining Sites in the Upper Peninsula,” a temporary photographic exhibit by Christine Flavin of Marquette.
