Upper Peninsula – American Legion Auxiliary Volunteers from 39 units in the U.P. will be distributing the familiar red, handcrafted poppies honoring America's war dead, Thursday, May 14 through Saturday, May 16 at various locations.
Each poppy is made by veterans at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, as a supplement to their income and also as physical therapy.
All proceeds collected by the Auxiliary Volunteers are contributed to programs for the rehabilitation and welfare of needy veterans and their families.
The American Legion asks everyone to wear a poppy and honor every American who has died for the American ideals of freedom, justice, and equality.
