The future has always held surprises along with complications, but this Lake Superior Theatre season has brought a unique adventure. Usually this time of year we are excitedly announcing our season show and plans for our Lightkeeper fundraiser. We, like you, are concerned about the Covid-10 situation. We have been wrestling with this decision and creating numerous what-if scenarios in the hope of a miracle that would facilitate our season. The safety and health of our patrons, volunteers cast and crew is our top priority and we want you to know that we have watched this situation for the last few months nervously hoping that as we neared our opening night that we could feel safe and comfortable with our 2020 season. We are also aware that our audience tends to be high risk. Additionally, live theatre is by its very nature a process that involves working closely together to provide an amazing product with a large group of people who cannot participate in appropriate social distancing. In light of ongoing developments with the Coronavirus we have reluctantly decided to extend our intermission until national and state guidelines give us the all clear for social gathering which in all likelihood will be the summer of 2021.
I was always taught, “a crisis is a terrible thing to waste”! So, we have decided to make lemonade out of the lemons and use the time to upgrade the Boathouse green room which will give our actors a fresh, new amazing space to enjoy during the summer which they devote to your entertainment. We have exciting news about this and as our plans are finalized we will be sharing them with you. We may, as time goes on, be able to provide some events/shows with limited audiences and unique circumstances – perhaps with social distancing or under the tent. Stay tuned for information!
Our musicals are designed to lift our spirits – something we need this year more than ever. We will miss LST as it feeds our collective soul and adds great joy to our lives. Our cast, crew, and board are bolstered by your spirit, your loyalty, and your support. We will keep working on innovating ways to collaborate for the return of a funtastic 2021 season. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We cannot wait to see you again at the Boathouse and have a gloriously fun, joyful reunion with all of you.
In many ways, the pandemic has further emphasized the power and important of our creative community, proving that art really makes the world go round (or at least makes it a whole lot better). We are all seeing through our digital worlds the power of the arts to connect us, to inspire us, to bring us joy in these uncertain times. Until then, stay safe and healthy and enjoy the myriad of on line opportunities to enjoy amazing artistic events. See you at the Boathouse
