Northern Michigan University Sustainability Week March16-20

Northern Michigan University’s EcoReps and Sustainability Advisory Council are hosting Sustainability Week March 16-20. This year’s theme is “Facing The Future.”

Here are some of the upcoming events:

Monday, March 16: Marquette County Planner and NMU alumna Emily Leach will kick off Sustainability Week at noon in Jamrich Hall (room TBD). Her presentation will introduce the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. Refreshments and sustainable snacks will be provided.

Tuesday, March 17: Tune In Tuesday will be an EcoReps and Citizen Climate Lobby collaboration. They’ll have a table in Jamrich with information about tuning in to climate policy, lobbying and action.

Also on Tuesday, the Environmental Stewardship Forum, “Learn & Spring Into Action,” will host Clayton Daughenbaugh from the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance. There will be information booths, a keynote presentation and community discussion beginning at 6 p.m. in Jamrich. See a related story here.

Wednesday, March 18: Clothing swap. Students are invited to spring clean their closets and refresh their wardrobes the sustainable way. They can drop off, pick up, swap out, try on and take home items from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the main Jamrich lobby.

Friday, March 20: Campus-wide Sustainability Summit from noon to 4 p.m. in Jamrich Hall. EcoReps will provide food and refreshments in Jamrich 1320, with a special Climate@Noon presentation revealing the winner of the Big Green Idea Challenge and reporting the results of the Sustainability Advisory Council’s inventory of NMU’s sustainability efforts. They will also gather campus input and ideas to further improve NMU’s sustainability and establish priorities for the next five or 10 years.
