Marquette, MI – United States Olympic Training Site weightlifters earned eight medals at USA Weightlifting’s National University Championships in Las Vegas.
Leading the medal count for the women was Destiny Young of Crystal, MN, who competed in the 45 kg weight class. Young lifted 55 kg in the snatch and 70 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 125 kg, earning her a gold medal for each lift.
The top medal winner for the men was Bret Pfeiffer, of Charleston, IL, who competed in the 81 kg weight class. Pfeiffer lifted 132 kg in the snatch and 157 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 289 kg. The lifts earned him gold, bronze and silver medals respectively.
Also taking home medals for the NMU-OTS team was Michaela McIntosh of New Hope, MN. McIntosh finished the event with bronze medals for her overall total of 148 kg and her 86 kg lift in the clean and jerk.
As a team, the NMU-OTS squad finished the weekend with nine top-10 finishes and placed second in both the men’s and women’s divisions behind Lindenwood University.

59 kg: Natalie Stockel, 165 kg total, 6th place
59 kg: Hannah Hopkins, 161 kg total, 7th place

81 kg: Bret Pfeiffer, 289 kg total, 2nd place
81 kg: Austin Gean, 264 kg total, 10th place
89 kg: Bradley Kozbiel, 255 kg total, 9th place
96 kg: William Phillips, 274 kg total, 6th place
