2011 – Business After Hours – Wednesday January 19, 2011

Business After Hours – Wednesday January 19, 2011
by Tammy Johnson,

January 19th marked a very special Business After Hours for Great Lakes Radio and Jon’s Auto. GLR Owner Todd Noordyk spoke to one of the largest BAH gatherings recently to tell everyone the story of Great Lakes Radio. Great Lakes Radio highlighted their commitment to local High Schools and their athletic programs through broadcast of the Negaunee Minors’, Westwood Patriots’, and Ishpeming Hematites’ football and boys and girls basketball games. Great Lakes radio is also committed to helping the high schools publicize any announcements, or promotional needs.

With a core staff of 24, Noordyk told the BAH’s group that the employees made him proud: “Their commitment to our community and doing what’s right for long-term growth of our local businesses is key in GLR’s success.” GLR has recently moved their studios to a new location in the Superior Lanes Entertainment Center, building brand-new, state of the art studios that feature a new “Green-Room” designed to bring in live bands for on-air features and recording possibilities and a new e-commerce center.

Over 20 people walked away with prizes from the event, but Jon’s Auto surprised everyone with a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country Limited Van giveaway. Brooklyn Neal died tragically on December 13th, leaving her parents to care for her four children. The grandparents had no transportation that could handle a family of that size, so when an anonymous donor stepped up and purchased the van for the family, Jon’s Auto performed their magic on the van and got it ready for the Brooklyn Neal family. NAPA Auto Parts donated materials for the van and the Marquette Community Foundation and Child and Family Services, who have been assisting the family, stepped in to alert the family of the anonymous donor’s gift. Family member Lisa Miller accepted the keys on behalf of the Grandparents and children.

There is no doubt that this family is getting around better thanks to the warm and caring actions of a member of our community. We think that’s what living in the U.P. is all about!

Great Lakes Radio has much more in store for our listeners in 2011: keep your radios tuned to your favorite GLR station!
