Dancing with the Hospice Stars – October 19

Ethnic Folk Dance October 16

Marquette, MIOctober 13, 2018 – The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center and NMU International Dancers will hold a free Ethnic Folk Dance at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at DanceZone. The event will feature ethnic dances from various groups represented in the Upper Peninsula, including French, Italian, Slovenian, Finnish, Swedish, Irish and more. Music will be performed by the Copper Country’s Thimbleberry Band. The dance is being held in conjunction with the current Beaumier Center exhibition, “The Immigration Experience.”

Marge Sklar, DanceZone instructor and coach of the NMU International Dancers, will lead the lessons. The NMU International Dancers is a group of NMU students, alumni, faculty and Marquette area residents who enjoy learning about different cultures through music and dance. Forest Roberts Theatre Presents Fringe Festival

Marquette, MI October 3, 2018 – Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre will present “Fringe Festival: Fighting for the Arts.” Each production is a collection of theater, music and dance pieces performed, directed and choreographed by NMU students. Productions will include Doubt, a contemporary dance piece with original choreography by Shannon Stilwell; Beauté, a contemporary dance piece with original choreography by Jill Grundstrom; Jule, an excerpt from a swashbuckler comedy by Shelley Russell; and Twelfth Night, an excerpt from the famous comedy by William Shakespeare.

Performances are scheduled in the James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4-Saturday, Oct. 6, and Wednesday, Oct. 10-Saturday, Oct. 13. There will be an additional 1 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Oct. 13. Tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for high school students, and $5 for NMU students.… Read the rest

Calendar – Dance – Community Dance in Rock – Mar. 11

Rock – A Community Dance will be held on Sunday, March 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Rock Community-Senior Center, 3892 W. Mapleridge Road in Rock.

Music will be provided by Wil Kilpela and Kenny. Admission is $5 per person and a free-will donation lunch will be available. Proceeds will benefit the Rock Senior Corporation.
