Tickets are $15. Step back in time with us and dance the night away to your favorite music of the 50’s and 60’s from Double Trouble Entertainment! Sock hop/50’s retro attire is absolutely encouraged for both guys and gals, but not required. Enjoy fun contests, a photo booth and more!

Marquette – A “World War I Remembered” Swing Dance, featuring the Westerly Winds Big Band, will be held on Thursday, May 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.

Patrons are not only encouraged to put on their dancing shoes, but to also don their Downton Abbey finest and embrace the culture of the WWI era. Refreshments will be served in the Marquette Arts and Culture Center.

“World War I Remembered” is a community commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the U.P.’s involvement in World War I and is made possible in part by a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Marquette – Northern Michigan University’s Siril Endowment for the Music Arts will offer a screening of The Royal Ballet’s production of “Frankenstein” on Sunday, April 9 at 5 p.m. in 1100 Jamrich Hall on the NMU campus.

This is a period adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Gothic tale of morality and craving for love, companionship and understanding. The performance was filmed in London and will be projected in high definition in Jamrich Hall’s state-of-the-art auditorium.

The event is free for NMU students with ID, faculty and staff; $15 for general public adults; and $5 for ages 17 and under.… Read the rest

Calendar – Dance – NCLL Contra Dancing Class Registration Deadline – Mar. 23

Marquette – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will host a contra dancing class on Tuesday, March 28 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Dance Zone in Marquette.

Contra dancing has its origins in English, Irish and French country dancing and has evolved into its own form of American folk dance. Dance Zone owner and instructor Marge Sklar will lead the workshop.
