2018 “Hope Starts Here” Challenge – May 12

Marquette, Mich.05/12/2018The River Valley Bank “Hope Starts Here” Challenge (raising awareness for the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center) will be held May 12 at various different starting locations. Packet pickup for registration and details is on Friday, May 11th, from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. at Lakeview Arena in Marquette.

The UMBTC’s is a collaborative effort between UP Health System, Northern Michigan University, and the Superior Health Foundation. Their mission is to empower patients and families dealing with brain tumors through advocacy, research, education, and treatment.

This year’s options for participants are:

  • a half marathon
  • a duathlon that consists of a 5k run, 10-mile trail bike ride and a 5k run
  • a 10k run
  • a 5k run
  • a 1-mile kids’ run
  • and a non-competitive leisure walk.

All competitive events have chip timing, handled by Superior Timing

‘A Taste of the North’ Beer Festival – May 12

Marquette, Mich.– ‘A Taste of the North’ Beer Festival, hosted by Wells Lions Club, will be at the Ruth Butler Building this Saturday,  May 12, from 4:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.

Supporting over 25 local charities, this craft Beer, Wine, and Food Festival Fundraiser will be featuring several Michigan breweries, vintners, and restaurants.

Entertainment includes:

  • a bonfire, hay wagon rides, yard games, 50/50 drawings, putting contest, and live music featuring OZ!
  • a raffle for new tires donated by Mr. Tire up to $600!
  • whoever dresses up in the best “Taste of the North” costume will win $500!
  • Contests and winners for the favorite beverage and favorite food will receive $500, voted on by the people

The $35 tickets gets you 15 “sample tickets” for you to redeem from popular craft beer breweries and wineries and the ticket also includes a custom-made 16oz pilsner glass.… Read the rest

Open House Art Auction – May 11

Calumet, Mi. – There will be an Open House Art Auction at the Calumet Art Center this Friday, May 11 from 5:00- 8:00 p.m.

  • The Spring Art Auction Fundraiser (for the Art Center) will begin May 4 as local artists will have their work on display for the auction.
  • Place your bids from May 4 until the big auction day (May 11) during business hours.
  • Winning bids will be announced at 7:00 p.m.

Wide selections of sellers, each with their own booth and a large items room. There will also be a raffle for a $50 Target Gift card.

Keweenaw Roller Girls Pancake Breakfast – April 28

Hancock, Mi.– The Keweenaw Roller Girls are hosting a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser, to kick off their 2018 season, this Saturday, April 28 from 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.

$5/plate of pancakes. All pancakes will be delivered to tables by skates!

The league coordinates with other roller derby leagues in the U.P. to help establish a thriving, committed roller derby community throughout the area. All proceeds will go toward the 2018 season.
