Second Annual Superhero Fun Run

Marquette, MI – Superior Arts Youth Theater (SAYT) will hold their second annual Superheroes on the Run fundraiser on Saturday, July 7, 2018. Race registration options include a 5k, 10k, and 1 Mile Kids’ Run. Runners are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero for this family friendly event supporting our local youth theater. Prizes donated by local businesses will be awarded for Best Costume and Top Finishers!

All three races will begin in the east side parking lot of Lakeview Arena (401 E. Fair Ave.) and continue north along the bike path toward Presque Isle.

31st Annual Tahquamenon Education Foundation Golf Fundraiser – June 22

Newberry, MI – Come out and have a great time from 11:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. while helping the students of Tahquamenon Area Schools.  The Tahqumenon Education Foundation’s 31st annual golf fundraiser is our biggest fundraiser and the proceeds go to scholarships to graduating seniors and grants to teachers.  There are going to be not only a 4-person golf scramble, but also new games, raffles, a 50/50. The Ives Lake Fundraiser – June 3

Marquette, Mi.– The Marquette Regional History Center presents The Ives Lake Fundraiser at the Huron Mountain Club this Sunday, June 3, from 1:00- 4:00 p.m.

Enjoy an afternoon touring the summer home and farm of John M. Longyear on Ives Lake within the grounds of the Huron Mountain Club.

John Case, great-grandson of Longyear, will give a guided historical tour of the property and will share family stories or you can choose to go on a guided hike to the top of “Breakfast Roll” and enjoy the view. Dress for the U.P. weather and potential mosquitos!

  • Hors-d’oeuvres by Rock River Farm and wine will be served in the “Stone House.”
  • Bid on a chance to have lunch with John Case at his cabin “Minong” on Ives Lake.

Marquette, Mi.– There will be an Antique Appraisal Fair at the Peter White Public Library in the Shiras Room Thursday, May 24, from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. and Friday, May 25, from 1:00- 4:00 p.m.

How much is your old lamp worth… or your childhood doll for that matter? Come get it appraised at the Antique Appraisal Fair! Categories of objects that can be appraised include:

British Isles Dinner – May 15

Marquette, Mich.– A six-course British Isles dinner paired with wines will be at Northern Michigan University on Tuesday, May 15, starting at 6:00 p.m.

A cocktail reception with a cash bar begins at 6:00 p.m. in the University Center Great Lakes Room and Dinner follows at 6:30 p.m. The 2018 U.P. Folklife Award will be presented at the dinner.


Chefs from the U.P Chapter of the ACF have designed each course…

  • Appetizers include fish and chips and an arugula salad with apple and cider vinaigrette.
  • The soup course features a traditional Welsh potato and leek soup with Stilton and smoked duck breast, served with crumpet and butter.
  • Chicken Tikka Masala will be served before the dinner course of Irish stew with stout braised lamb shoulder, sweet winter carrots and baby kale served with cheddar soda bread.
  • The dinner will end with desserts: peach compote and brandy chocolate truffle; Scottish shortbread with Glenlivet macerated berries; and sticky toffee pudding petit gateau.

Escanaba, Mi.– The Wells Lions Club is hosting the “Craft Beer Festival” charity fundraiser in the Ruth Butler building this Saturday, May 12 from 4:00- 9:00 p.m.

Buying a ticket gets you your very own custom 16oz glass and access to amazing craft beers from MI’s best breweries & a bountiful selection of wine from the area’s most popular vintners! Food is available for purchase from Andy’s Diner, Bobaloon’s, and Yooper Nuts Bean Bags.

2018 “Hope Starts Here” Challenge – May 12

Marquette, Mich.05/12/2018The River Valley Bank “Hope Starts Here” Challenge (raising awareness for the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center) will be held May 12 at various different starting locations. Packet pickup for registration and details is on Friday, May 11th, from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. at Lakeview Arena in Marquette.

The UMBTC’s is a collaborative effort between UP Health System, Northern Michigan University, and the Superior Health Foundation. Their mission is to empower patients and families dealing with brain tumors through advocacy, research, education, and treatment.

This year’s options for participants are:

  • a half marathon
  • a duathlon that consists of a 5k run, 10-mile trail bike ride and a 5k run
  • a 10k run
  • a 5k run
  • a 1-mile kids’ run
  • and a non-competitive leisure walk.

All competitive events have chip timing, handled by Superior Timing
