Hancock – A Side of Portage, a free lunchtime series featuring topics of general interest in the health and wellness field, will be held on Wednesday, March 3 from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. at Portage Health Conference Center in Hancock.

Marquette – Tomoko Inoue, Great Lakes Center for youth development cultural program associate, will teach classes on Japanese culture and art in a free, four week seminar at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center, in the Peter White Public Library. Classes for sixth through twelfth grade students will meet on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. beginning on March 3.

Students will learn basic Japanese words, how to eat with chopsticks, how to write their name in Japanese calligraphy, how to create beautiful shapes using origami, and get a taste of Japanese food. Class size is limited to 15 students.

MarquetteThe Marquette Arts and Culture Center will offer a Basic Ballroom Dance class on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. beginning March 3 through April 7 at the MACC, located in Peter White Public Library.

The class will include instruction in the waltz, rhumba, cha cha, salsa, tango and pasadoble. Instructors will be Camilla Mingay and Don Ohman. Cost is $45 for city of Marquette residents, $50 for others.

Seney – The Seney National Wildlife Refuge, in cooperation with Seney Natural History Association, will continue their Winter Film Festival with “Nourish: Food Plus Community” and “Garbage: The Revolution Starts at Home” on Tuesday, March 2 at 7 p.m. in the Visitor Center Auditorium at the Refuge.

The shows are open to the public and free of charge. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided. The Seney National Wildlife Refuge is located at 1674 Refuge Entrance Road in Seney.

Peter White Public Library Readers Theater is a group of adults, who are interested in drama and are willing and able to read a scripted role. They meet on the first Tuesday of each month to read plays for enjoyment. New members are always welcome.
