State Senator Tom Casperson On Michigan’s Budget

May 26, 2011

(MARQUETTE, MI) – Michigan State Senator Tom Casperson says the state budget should be on it’s way to Governor Rick Snyder for his signature ahead of schedule. The Delta County Republican, appearing today on Sunny 101.9 WKQS-fm’s Mark and Walt in the Morning, said the Senate version of the budget is now in the hands of the House and they should have the omnibus budgets covering education and the rest of government operations set by tonight.

Governor Snyder had requested that the state legislature have the budget on his desk and ready for his signature by May 31st, which was virtually unheard of in Lansing. In his interview this morning, Casperson said that the reason the budget process was so rapid this time was because no one in the legislature wanted to get caught up in the typical vitriolic bickering and foot-dragging seen over the last several budget negotiations at the Capitol.

Casperson also went on to say that the current leadership in Lansing is more interested in long-term structural changes to the budgeting process and not one-time fixes that only temporarily balance the budget for the year.
