NEGAUNEE SCHOOLS FACE BUDGET CHALLENGES
May 24, 2010
Negaunee Public Schools Superintendent James Derocher joined us in the studios to discuss some of the steps recently taken by the Negaunee Schools’ Board of Education to address a 1-point-5 million dollar budget shortfall in their operating budget. The first round of action included the layoff of seven teaching positions in an effort to save the district approximately 433-thousand dollars. That still leaves just over a million dollars in further cuts having to made by the district in a limited period of time. Superintendent Derocher discussed some of the options and challenges faced by the district to carry through those remaining cuts and how they will affect the school.
