Negaunee – The Upper Peninsula Luge Club will host the 2018 Heikki Lunta Festival on Friday, January 19 and Saturday, January 20 in downtown Negaunee. Friday evening will begin the festival at 7 p.m. with a winter parade down Iron Street, followed by an opening ceremony at Breitung Park and live music at local establishments.
Saturday will be filled with a full schedule of events, starting at 8 a.m. to include something for everyone: Pannu Kakku breakfast, bake sale, display from the Finnish-American Heritage Center, guest speakers, an old school snowmobile show, ski jumping at Suicide Hill and luging open to public at Lucy Hill. A full line-up of Yooper Feats of Strength are also slated: Yooper Scoop Scramble, Trenary Toast Eating Contest, Ice Turkey Bowling, Big and Little Yooper Obstacle course races and new this year, Crapper Dash, Chook Chuck and Yooper-sized Foosball.
The festival will wrap up Saturday evening with a bonfire, fireworks over Old Town and live music all up and down Iron Street! For a complete list of activities and times, go to the Upper Peninsula Luge Club Facebook page.
