Rabbit Island Residency Exhibition Opens at DeVos – Sept. 25

Marquette, MichiganSeptember 15, 2015 – The Rabbit Island 2015 Residency Exhibition will open Friday, Sept. 25, at the DeVos Art Museum at Northern Michigan University. It highlights the work of five artists, composers and writers who spent part of the summer on the remote Lake Superior island. An opening reception is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Marquette community singers will perform the original composition, Sacred Warp and Woof Song Cycle by Noam Enbar, at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

The Rabbit Island Residency unofficially launched in 2010. For the past four years, the DeVos Art Museum has partnered with the residency to present public programs and exhibitions. This year’s featured artists include: Eugene Birman, a Latvian-born composer based in Oakland, Calif.; Scott Diel, an American-born writer based in Tallinn, Estonia; Beau Carey, a landscape painter from Albuquerque, N.M.; Noam Enbar, an Israeli composer and performer based in Tel Aviv; and Josefina Muñoz, a multi-disciplinary artist from Santiago, Chile, who creates pieces in and about the environments she encounters.

Two artist’s lectures will precede the opening: one by Muñoz at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in Art and Design 165; and another by Beau Carey at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, in Art and Design 165.

The exhibition runs through Nov. 8. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and Friday, noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.
