Garden, Michigan – The Garden Peninsula Economic Task Force in partnership with Heritage Garden Wind Farm celebrated the grand opening of a Community Welcome Center. Located in the village of Garden, the center is designed to be a resource for tourists, residents, and businesses to visit and find more information on things to do and see on the peninsula. In addition to local brochures and a map, the center features a wide screen TV that will play video footage of the attractions and things to do while visiting.
According to Garden Peninsula Economic Task Force Director Lon Hider, “One of the long term objectives of the Garden Peninsula Economic Task Force involved the creation of a welcome center that could pull together all the wonderful opportunities for tourists in our area. The task force has always worked with businesses to facilitate these opportunities. When Heritage donated the space in their building, it was right in line with our objectives to generate economic opportunities for everyone on the Garden Peninsula. We are very excited about this opportunity afforded to us by Heritage.”
The group worked with Heritage Garden Wind Farm to convert existing office space. The Welcome Center will be open to the public from 9-3pm daily and on weekends.
The Garden Peninsula Economic Task Force is a volunteer group of community leaders focused on economic development on the peninsula. The Heritage Garden Wind Farmis the first wind energy generating facility in the Upper Peninsula.
