Voted to offer a 1-year contract to Dr. Piereson for the Interim Superintendent position.

BUDGET HEARING SUMMARY

The Board heard public comment from the following: Peggy Noah and Sandy Petrovich.
Amy Luoma, Business Manager, presented the Board with a comprehensive review of the District’s 2012-13 budget amendment and 2013-14 proposed budget, detailing the significant revisions to both revenues and expenditures in both fiscal years. The Board will vote on the 2012-13 amended budget and 2013-14 proposed budget during the regular meeting this evening.

The Board heard public comment from the following: Leesa Misterly, Jane Nordeen, AJ Filizetti, Val Valima, Rob Soyring, and Nancy Machalk.
Claims in the amount of $476,969 were approved for payment.
Board with received a list of local scholarship recipients and an updated Board Committee listing.
The Board took action on the following:
Approved a resolution to adopt the District’s amended 2012-13 General Fund and Food Service Funds. The revised budget reflects a projected 6/30/13 General Fund balance of $127,852.
Approved a resolution to adopt the District’s General Fund and Food Service Budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year. The General Fund includes projected revenues of $10,583,340, expenditures of $10,683,088, and a projected 6/30/14 General Fund balance of $28,104.

Elected Ronald J. Libey as the Board’s Vice President.
Offered a 1-year contract to Dr. Stephen L. Piereson, as the District’s Interim Superintendent for the 2013-14 school year at a salary of $95,000.
Approved a contract with the Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency outlining services they will provide for the District during the 2013-14 school year.
Approved the District’s membership with the Michigan Association of School Boards for the 2013-14 school year.
Approved a membership resolution to participate in the Michigan High School Athletic Association for the 2013-14 school year.
Passed a resolution to borrow funds for school operations, in anticipation of state school aid, to begin the 2013-14 school year.
Approved the 2014 Junior Prom to be held on May 10, 2014 at the Marquette Regional History Center.
Approved the purchase of a 3-secion roll in refrigerator for the food service department.
Accepted the following resignations/retirements:
1. James Morris – cross country coach, Gwinn High School, effective date of resignation – May 28, 2013
2. Kelly Kienert – boys & girls tennis coach, Gwinn High School, effective date of resignation – May 31, 2013
3. Kathleen Johnson – assistant cook/baker, Gwinn High School, effective date of retirement – June 1, 2013
Approved the employment of the following personnel:
1. Robin Liquia – summer food service program worker, Gwinn High School, effective date of hire – June 10, 2013
2. James Morris – assistant varsity football coach, Gwinn High School, effective date of employment – first day of the 2013-14 fall sports season
