Big Bay – The Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve will host a Volunteer Training Day, for its second season of the Salmon-Trout River Volunteer Monitoring Program, on Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m. in the Powell Township School gym in Big Bay.
Participants will learn the process of habitat evaluation, information about stream ecology, and how to properly identify the macro-invertebrates that live in local waterways. Following the program, a bag lunch along the stream will be provided by The Yellow Dog Watershed and many local businesses for those who RSVP in advance. Attendees will spend the afternoon in streams with hands-on bug collecting and identification.
No previous experience is necessary and all ages are encouraged to attend. Those who would like to participate in collecting at the river should bring knee high rubber boots or waders. Also, bring drinking water, an extra set of warm clothes, and rain gear. For more information, email Christy@yellowdogwatershed.org or call 345-9223.
