Marquette, Michigan – Award winning author of adventurous, historical fiction novels, William Durbin, will be at the Peter White Public Library for two events on Thursday, April 11.
A book talk and signing event for readers in grades 3 through adults will be held at 4:30 pm in the library’s Shiras Room on the upper level. Durbin’s writings tell the stories of homesteaders, fur traders, lumberjacks and other keepers of the great north. A winner of the Great Lakes Book Award and a two-time winner of the Minnesota Book Award, William has published eleven novels for young readers, including Song of Sampo Lake, The Broken Blade, Wintering, and The Darkest Evening. His novel El Lector was recently optioned for film by Jane Startz Productions.
In the evening at 7:00 pm, Durbin will lead a writing workshop for writers in the Arts Center workshop #3 on the lower level of the library. Durbin will explain how to find inspiration in the people, places, and events from your own hometown; use original source material such as diaries, letters, journals, field research, newspaper articles, personal interviews, and unpublished manuscripts, to write fiction that brings history to life. Durbin will also give hints on how to beat writers block and tips on getting published. The 90 minute workshop is geared toward middle school through adult writers.
A book sale and signing opportunity will follow each presentation. There is no admission charge and no registration required. For more information call the Peter White Public Library at 226-4318 or visit www.pwpl.info.
