How to find a job in a down economy can be difficult. Marquette County’s March unemployment rate is still at a significant 9.6 percent rate, which is a slight improvement over 2010, but still remains a challenge for those searching for a job. Here are some key ways for Great Lakes Radio listeners to find that family-sustaining position.
First, who do you know? Use all of your contacts (friends, neighbors, family) to help you get inside information about companies that may be hiring. Don’t be shy about asking for a recommendation, or referral, as it could pay off big for you. If you are a veteran there are many additional options open to you–use them. Next, make sure you work with agencies that assist in placement and education of the unemployed. Some agencies offer great training that could assist you in finding work in a field that you may not already have training for.
You can’t rely on the help wanted classifieds in the highly competitive arena anymore. Yes, it is hard to stay positive when you are unemployed, but through careful thought and a persistent attitude, you may find that key person that will open your next door.
